Your Safety while volunteering with us is our top most priority. We make sure our coordinators provide you with whatever support you may need at any step along the way and you will live with a carefully selected and well oriented host families in safe neighbourhoods.

The benefits are enormous, a participant will learn social skills, which involves the ability to talk and relate easily to other people and do things in a group harmoniously, learn intercultural skills, the volunteer will acquire work experience in a very useful project abroad, and make new friends. Where will I stay?

Project coordinators and dedicated staff visit the communities in which volunteers will work to do feasibility studies to carefully select host families who are taken through orientation to provide volunteers with care and all the support they need to feel at home to do their work.

Where will I work?

The service of a volunteer is much needed in the rural areas where there is understaffed and overstretched staff.

What do I need to pack?

Your personal belongings, related to a project you have chosen to work on. We will provide further information on health and daily living issues once your application is processed.

What should be my age to be a volunteer?

You need to be at least 18 years old and have completed the equivalency of Senior High School in Ghana. A Senior should be from 55 years and above.

Will I be given a Certificate of Participation?

Yes, you will be given a certificate of participation.

What are the pre-departure preparations?

The moment you make up your mind to come to Ghana, send us your letter and indicate the programme of your choice and your CV through our address or contact .

  • We will get back to you and then start processing your application.
  • You will obtain entry visa from Ghana's foreign missions in your country which may take one or two weeks.
  • Book your flight, but give us detailed information before departure.
  • Email us all the information we need to know about your flight before departure.
  • Vaccinate against, Cholera, Hepatitis A, etc. See your doctor before you travel for medical advice.
  • Go for Travel insurance.
  • Pack your personal belongings but be mindful of the flight baggage weight.
  • The weather is fairly warm in Ghana, so this may guide your choice of clothe you bring.
  • You wil arrive at Ghana's Airport, Kotoka International Airport, Accra and be picked up by our enthusiastic staff as and when you arrive.
  • You will spend the night in Accra or taken to your host family.
  • Orientation lessons will be given within the first three days of arrival which will settle you comfortably into the hospitable Ghanaian society.

Where does the money go?

Transparency and making sure volunteers understand what their fees cover is important to CIVoG. 70% of each money raised by Community Impact Volunteers of Ghana, goes straight into the service we provide to our volunteers on the programme, which includes; Airport pickup services and departure, first day accommodation, and breakfast in Accra to get to see the city and begin the acclimatisation process. One-way transportation service to host family in the communities from Accra. Compensation to host family (accommodation, meal 3x daily, water, electricity), orientation materials, supervision of volunteers, 24hour local support service, regular monitoring, planning and management of projects, souvenirs on your arrival and certificate on departure. 30% also takes care of administrative expenses and communication cost.

Why are CIVoG’s fees so much more affordable than other volunteer organisations?

What are the requirements to Volunteer with CIVoG?

Among the requirements for in-come volunteers for CIVoG projects in Ghana, our Volunteers only require a level of competence in English to communicate with the people, you must have a clean criminal record background, and the willingness to learn in a new environment. Your personal belongings, related to a project you have chosen to work on. You do not necessarily need to have volunteered before and for most of our projects you do not need to have experience in the type of volunteering you wish to undertake. But it’s important to point out that, please, for our Medical and Healthcare volunteer projects, volunteers must be qualified or must be in training in a relevant medical field and must have documentation to confirm this. This document will be collected on arrival in order to be presented to the medical institution you will be attached to.

How long does the program last?

The program last from 1 week to 12 months depending on the choice of the volunteer. You could always review it.

Will CIVoG provide a reference or act as a referee for me once I finish volunteering?

Yes, Community Impact Volunteers of Ghana, will provide you with a letter of reference at the completion of your trip, upon request.

Can I go travelling and sightseeing during the weekends of my volunteer program?

Yes, as a CIVoG volunteer, you will have your free time and weekends available to explore more of the sights and sounds of Ghana which are a lot.  You will also have the chance to go out with your host family to the local markets, attend traditional marriage ceremonies, attend festivals, go to church, and practically participate in all social activities of your host families. Our field officers are always on standby happily to provide recommendations for tours or trips that you can take.
